Cooper STT PRO vs Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T | Mud vs All-Terrain

Both tires are although part of a same company, they sure are very different. On one side, we have a mud-terrain tire, the Cooper STT Pro, where on the other the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T comes in Rugged Terrain category. Lets start off with their designs, and then we'd see how both tires perform next to each other on all types of terrains including pavements. Design: The Mickey Baja Boss A/T features a 4 rib design forming 3 longitudinal channels. The outer two of these circumferential grooves are wider while the middle one is narrower and very tough passing. One of the internal rib has blocks with longitudinal and lateral incisions in them, forming in-groove biters, while the other has lugs with rest of the tread features including sharp chamfered edges, notches and full depth siping. These provide off-road traction whereas with closed up proximity of these lugs, you also get ample directional grip. Being a hybrid, the tire features shoulder lugs with the widest of all tread voids, and on each lug there are 6 stone ejectors seen, both of these provide very self cleaning capabilities. Though its still not enough compared to Cooper STT Pro, where you see a more open tread design. The STT Pro basically has shoulder lugs covering a major part of the tread, in fact the central blocks look like part of these elongated shoulder lugs, only separated by longitudinal grooves. This accounts for much better self cleaning off-road allowing mud and dirt particles to escape out in multiple directions.
