Where BF Goodrich KO2 is an All-Terrain tire while the Nitto Ridge Grappler is a hybrid. A hybrid, sometimes also called rugged terrain, is simply a mixture of two tires, where it has bulky shoulders of a Mud tire and at the same time has compact blocks arrangement in the middle, like an All-Terrain tire. Both tires have staggered shoulders but the ones on the Nitto Ridge are more prominent. Nitto Ridge also features dual sidewall design with bulkier lugs where BF Goodrich KO2's has less thicker lugs but they still paste on large surface area. These lugs help when the tire faces flexing sidewalls, as they grab and pull (when the tire pressure is lowered). Other than this both tires offer numerous biting edges, where the KO2 has more prominent ones of the shoulder blocks and the Nitto Ridge's features them more in the middle.
