MTR offers broader grooves with a lower contact patch and reduced tire grip. So, the higher void ratio of this tire affects its performance on dry paved surfaces. However, in wet situations, the widely spaced grooves along with full-depth sipes bring sensational performance as they wipe away water efficiently and reduce the risk of hydroplaning.

Mud Terrain

The wider grooves of MTR enable it to cope with extreme muddy conditions as they provide several biting edges which effectively grab mud and throws it back to aid the forward movement of the tire. Moreover, the open shoulders of this tire keep the sidewall clean as they allow the mud to pass smoothly through them.

KO2 comes with narrower grooves which affect its efficiency on mud terrain. The mud may get stuck into the barely spaced grooves and result in the loss of traction. So, this tire is less effective in catching and throwing back mud as compared to its counterpart. Moreover, the shoulder studs also lack in their function as they do not allow the easy passing of mud through them.

Snow Terrain

The widely spaced grooves of MTR, just like on mud, give maximum traction on soft snow as they effectively bite snow and throw it backwards, resulting in effective movement of the tire. However, this tire has a lower contact patch and reduced tire grip, so, it struggles on icy roads. The reduced traction of this tire makes it more slippery on ice terrain, therefore, this tire is not a decent choice in such conditions.

KO2 featuring narrower grooves is not much favorable option on soft snow. The grooves of this tire do not permit it to efficiently grab and throw back soft snow, so, this tire is not a favorable choice in such circumstances. However, on ice, the greater contact patch grants it a strong grip, allowing the tire to undergo such severe conditions quite easily.

The broader grooves of MTR grant it an efficient grip on rocky paths. They give it an edge to overcome tough rocky conditions. Also, the stone ejectors are highly optimized to block the entry of stone/pebbles into the grooves. If not hindered they can penetrate through the tire and puncture it. Moreover, this tire offers wraparound tread which protects it from unusual rock damage.

KO2 highlights a lower void ratio which reduces its grip on rocks. The narrower grooves of this tire may catch small stones into them and result in reducing its efficiency on rocky terrain. Its higher rolling resistance exposes it to higher treadwear which reduces its durability. However, this tire also features 3 ply polyester cord sidewalls and 2 steel belts with nylon which makes it resistant to chips and cuts up to some extent.

Which Tire is more Comfortable?

MTR lacks in the case of on-road comfort as it features wider grooves which allow a large number of air particles to get trapped into them. These air particles collide with the walls of the grooves, producing a loud noise, and contribute to reducing the overall comfort of the tire. The same wider grooves are proved effective in providing a much comfortable ride off-road as they act as shock absorbers in such conditions. They lessen the impact of jerks and make the tire more reliable.

KO2 features a lower void ratio and greater contact patch with the road, allowing a limited amount of air particles to get trapped into the grooves and lowering the noise when they strike the walls of the grooves. Moreover, the lesser braking distance contributes to increase the on-road comfort of this tire. However, in the case of off-road comfort, the narrower grooves result in a bumpy ride as they lack in damping the impact of jerks. Therefore, this tire is not much reliable on rough unpaved paths.
